Bringing Digital Solutions to Healthcare in West Nile
BOSCO-Uganda was proud to partner with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on an innovative Digital Transformation Project aimed at revolutionizing healthcare data management across West Nile region. This high-impact initiative focuses on enhancing health workers’ use of digital technologies for data collection and visualization, ultimately improving decision-making, policy formulation, and resource allocation in the healthcare sector.
Project Scope and Implementation
The JICA Digital Transformation Project is being implemented in 12 districts across West Nile, involving intensive collaboration between multiple stakeholders:
- BOSCO Uganda: Providing technical expertise and implementation support
- JICA: Providing funding and project oversight
- Accenture: Collaborating on digital solution design
- Viamo: Supporting with mobile technology integration
- Ministry of Health: Providing policy guidance and government coordination
- Airtel: Supporting connectivity solutions
- Mandulis Energy: Partnering on energy solutions for health facilities
Accomplishments to Date
The BOSCO team achieved significant milestones in this groundbreaking project:
- Conducted a comprehensive baseline study across 74 health facilities in 12 districts
- Interviewed clinicians, District Health Officers, Biostatisticians, and local government officials
- Presented initial insights to the Ministry of Health and JICA in a collaborative workshop in Kampala
- Identified 48 health facilities for enrollment in the pilot phase
- Collaborated with Accenture on designing the digital solution for pilot implementation
- Engaged with Airtel to develop connectivity solutions for the 48 pilot facilities
Moving Healthcare Forward
The JICA Digital Transformation Project represents a significant step forward in digitizing Uganda’s healthcare system. By transitioning from manual paper registers to digital systems, health workers will be able to collect, analyze, and visualize data more efficiently, leading to improved healthcare delivery and outcomes for patients.
